INDUSTRIAL DESIGN - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Atlantek asked Stream PD to create and assess new product directions for their ID card printing technology in order to take their company into the next generation, then implement those ideas into manufacturable innovations. Stream worked closely with the internal team at Atlantek to provide industrial design, mechanical engineering and prototypes.

Moving to a modular product architecture was essential to create a feature set that could change depending on customer needs, and reduce labor costs that were hampering productivity. We encouraged the exchange of their sheet metal chassis for injection molding. We explored and arrived at a product identity that users felt was more like a consumer product, and less like an industrial one, but still used some details that retained the heritage of the original.

BUSINESS IMPACT

Atlantek was purchased by Zebra, and this product line was retained as their high end ID card printer.
