The Octane Elite™ EDS System is an electron microscope accessory that creates a profile of chemical elements in a material. This is EDAX's premium microscopy product, and reflects groundbreaking technological advances in accuracy. They asked Stream PD to distinguish their new product line from the competition and then make it manufacturable. 

We combined form and function by integrating the internal components with sleek organic covers that move between the the two operating positions without risk of pinching fingers. We managed the cables by putting them on one side under a cover that directs them out the back, leaving plenty of room for the service loop needed. The organic curves and matte black covers contrast with the high tech stainless steel port cover and aluminum slide base.

We worked closely with EDAX’s internal component layout to optimize function and user interaction by moving components where possible. We integrated their custom slide mechanism into the assembly, created custom brackets and cable retention features all while maintaining the tight tolerances required for an electron microscope. The covers improved the passive heat dissipation of the internal heat sink that we optimized.

We created and assembled prototypes as well as first articles for their production run. We provided a complete drawing package for the transition to manufacturing.
